USAID has a long history of providing vital humanitarian aid and assistance to nations in need around the world. While it has faced controversies, the agency ultimately serves a crucial role in alleviating suffering and supporting development efforts globally. Shuttering or subsuming USAID would undermine America's ability to project soft power and uphold its values of compassion on the international stage. We must protect USAID's capacity to operate independently and effectively in service of the world's most vulnerable populations. Its investigative role overseeing public-private partnerships like the one with Starlink is also an essential accountability measure. Preserving USAID is in our national interest and aligned with democratic principles of transparency. I urge you to safeguard this agency's funding and autonomy for the greater good.
