I am writing to express my concern about the state of American's right to privacy. The nationwide trend of using ALPRs and mass surveillance of watch the everyday actions of Americans is alarming. Many cities have contracts with Flock, which has shown to be ineffective and poorly designed, allowing for much more data to be compromised and misused than stated. Now, as cities drop Flock, they are signing new contracts with similar ALPR companies. The problem isn't which company they use, but the very concept of mass surveillance. The American justice system is based on the idea of innocent until proven guilty. Mass surveillance is based on the opposite. It is unjust, and un-American. I am calling for national legislation protecting Americans from the predations of these companies and those who would misuse their technology.
