Stop Playing the Victim — You Had the Power to Fight Back
To: Sen. Cornyn
From: A verified voter in Dallas, TX
May 30
Posting a fable on social media isn't leadership. You knew exactly who Trump was, and you chose to work with him anyway. Now that he's turned on you, the rest of us are supposed to feel sorry for you? The frog in that story at least tried to get across the river. What were you trying to accomplish?
The real victims here are Texans who needed a senator willing to stand up and say no. Instead, we got accommodation, and now we're getting a scorpion-themed exit strategy. Will Saletan put it plainly: the lesson of that fable is something you learn as a child, not at 74. You had the platform, the seniority, and the time left in office to use your voice. The beneficiary of Trump's betrayal is Ken Paxton — a man impeached by his own party on corruption charges. That's what your deference bought us.
You still have months left. Use them. Stop performing victimhood and start using whatever leverage a lame-duck senator has to push back on the people actually causing harm. That's what leadership looks like.
