As you are aware, raising import tariff taxes will have a devastating effect on our nation’s economy, will increase inflation and wreck the savings of vulnerable seniors. Please work on bipartisan legislation to prevent Mr. Trump from singularly raising tariffs. These taxes should only be imposed by the authority of Congress and not by an imperial president. New legislation should be used to reduce or eliminate most existing tariffs except for the most severe fair-trade conflicts or abuses. Tariffs severely impact the poor and seniors and will push many more into poverty. It is important that this happen as soon as possible to preempt any effort by the incoming administration to meddle with our very delicate economy.
