Thirteen days have passed since devastating flooding hit Upshur and Lewis Counties, and families, businesses, and local governments are still waiting for a federal disaster declaration and FEMA assistance.
Meanwhile, Congress is about to leave Washington for a month-long recess. Ohio County waited 38 days for approval. If you allow that kind of delay to happen again, these communities could be waiting 60 days or more before meaningful federal assistance arrives.
That is unacceptable.
I am demanding that you immediately work across every level of government to secure FEMA disaster assistance for Upshur and Lewis Counties before Congress leaves town. Stop passing responsibility. Stop waiting. Pick up the phone, coordinate with FEMA and the White House, and fight for the people you were elected to represent.
Flood survivors cannot put their lives on hold while elected officials go on vacation.
Do your jobs. Secure the federal disaster declaration and FEMA aid now.
