I am writing to urge Congress to demand that President Trump and his administration focus on the real problems affecting Americans instead of spending time and government resources renaming bodies of water, landmarks, or other geographic features. Families across the country are dealing with high grocery costs, concerns about food safety, repeated recalls, and uncertainty about whether the agencies responsible for protecting our food supply have the resources and leadership they need. These are issues that directly affect people’s health, finances, and daily lives. Instead of prioritizing symbolic name changes, the administration should be focused on strengthening food inspections, preventing contamination before products reach store shelves, supporting the FDA and USDA, improving accountability throughout the food supply chain, and addressing the rising cost of food. Every major food recall should raise serious questions about what could have been done to prevent the problem in the first place. Americans should not have to repeatedly check their refrigerators and pantries to find out whether something they purchased may be unsafe. Prevention, enforcement, adequate staffing, and strong food-safety standards deserve far more attention. Changing the name of a body of water does not make groceries cheaper, prevent contaminated food from reaching families, or improve anyone’s quality of life. The federal government’s priorities should reflect the actual problems Americans face every day. I urge Congress to exercise its oversight authority, protect funding and staffing for federal food-safety programs, and push this administration to focus on meaningful issues that affect public health and household budgets rather than unnecessary symbolic changes. Please put the needs of the American people first and demand serious attention to food affordability, food safety, and the other real challenges facing families across the country.
