Stop the Rebranded War: Enforce the War Powers Act

To: Rep. Beatty, Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted

From: A verified voter in Columbus, OH

May 14

I am writing to express my grave concern and firm opposition to the administration’s continued escalation of conflict with Iran. I urge you to assert your Article I oversight authority to address a foreign policy that appears increasingly detached from intelligence reality and constitutional law. On the Manipulation of Intelligence: The current justification for hostilities mirrors the systemic failures that led us into the Iraq War. According to recent reports and intelligence assessments, Iran was not building a nuclear weapon nor reauthorizing a suspended program. Furthermore, the Defense Intelligence Agency has confirmed that Iran poses no ICBM threat to the U.S. until at least 2035. It is unacceptable to prioritize a narrative for war over the fact-based assessments of our own intelligence agencies. We cannot repeat the catastrophe of "weapons of mass destruction" rhetoric used to justify unprovoked Middle Eastern conflicts. On the Violation of the War Powers: Act Attempts to bypass the 1973 War Powers Act by simply renaming military operations (e.g., from “Epic Fury” to “Operation Sledgehammer”) are a transparent and legally dubious effort to restart the clock on congressional authorization. I urge you to assert the authority of the Legislative Branch. The 60-day deadline for congressional authorization has passed; any continuation of combat operations without an explicit vote is a violation of the law. On the Economic Impact and Executive Accountability: While inflation has reached its highest level since 2023 and the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, the President has explicitly stated, “I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation. I don’t think about anybody.” This admission of total disregard for the economic suffering of American citizens, caused by an unprovoked and unnecessary war, is a dereliction of the duty to protect the interests of the American people. I am asking you to: 1. Publicly demand a return to intelligence-led foreign policy. 2. Invoke the War Powers Resolution to cease unauthorized combat operations immediately. 3. Prioritize the economic security of your constituents over an ego-driven and legally unfounded military campaign. The American people deserve leadership that values truth and the rule of law over partisan narratives and personal agendas. I look forward to your response and your plan of action.
