Protect NC from Harmful Immigration Enforcement

To: Sen. Daniel, Rep. Prather, Gov. Stein

From: A constituent in Candler, NC

February 1

As your constituent, I urge you to oppose any state budget measures that would increase funding, resources, or cooperation with federal immigration enforcement agencies. The tragic impacts of these agencies are felt in our own community, stemming from a pattern of unchecked operations and abuse. Our state has both the power and the moral obligation to protect our residents. I ask that you take a firm stand by: Opposing any state budget allocations that would expand funding for cooperation with these agencies or for any state-based detention initiatives. Supporting and strengthening state-level protections that: Prohibit state and local law enforcement resources from being used for immigration enforcement purposes. Ban profiling based on race, language, accent, or immigration status. Protect sensitive locations like schools, hospitals, and courthouses from enforcement actions. End all state contracts with private, for-profit immigration detention facilities. Reject any proposals to deploy state resources for border enforcement missions outside our jurisdiction. Please use your position to ensure our state budget reflects our values of safety and dignity for all residents. Upholding these protections is crucial for community trust and wellbeing. Thank you for your service and your consideration of this urgent matter.
