Defunding unconstitutional surveillance programs to protect civil liberties

To: Sen. Gallego, Sen. Kelly, Rep. Crane

From: A constituent in Kearny, AZ

May 1

As a co-equal branch of government, we must take immediate action to halt the unconstitutional and unethical surveillance programs being carried out by DOGE. The creation of a centralized database containing personal data from numerous federal agencies is an egregious violation of civil liberties and a flagrant abuse of power by the executive branch. This domestic surveillance apparatus poses a grave threat to our democratic values and cannot be allowed to persist. The mass collection and merging of private citizen data from agencies like the IRS, Social Security Administration, and Department of Health and Human Services is a disturbing overreach. Combining such sensitive information into a comprehensive dossier on every American resident enables the potential for severe civil rights abuses and political retaliation against dissidents. This Orwellian infrastructure lays the groundwork for turnkey totalitarianism under an administration willing to flout the law. As members of Congress, it is our sworn duty to act as a check on executive overreach and defend the constitutional rights of the people. We cannot sit idly by as the foundations of our free society are undermined by authoritarian tendencies. Punitive measures must be taken immediately to defund and dismantle these surveillance programs before they inflict further damage to our democratic institutions and the civil liberties we hold dear.
