Vote no on H.R. 1897
To: Rep. Williams
From: A verified voter in Atlanta, GA
April 10
I am writing to urge you to vote no on H.R. 1897.
This legislation would significantly weaken the Endangered Species Act (ESA), undermining one of the most effective and important environmental laws in our nation’s history. For more than 50 years, the ESA has played a critical role in preventing extinction and promoting the recovery of iconic species such as bald eagles, red wolves, and whales.
H.R. 1897 prioritizes short-term industrial interests over sound science and long-term environmental stewardship. By weakening protections and limiting the role of scientific expertise in decision-making, this bill would put countless vulnerable species at greater risk of extinction.
The American public overwhelmingly supports the ESA—approximately 84% of Americans favor maintaining strong protections for endangered species. Weakening this law would not only harm wildlife but also disregard the will of the people.
I respectfully urge you to oppose H.R. 1897 and uphold the integrity of the Endangered Species Act.
