Subject: Create and Fund Veteran Humanitarian Social Security medical transparency Program In nursing homes it’s about 11 to 12 percent of residents with pressure ulcers. In hospitals it’s around 8 and a half percent of patients at any given time, and about 1.6 million develop them each year in acute care. For home care the data shows 5 to 15 percent prevalence, and one study of over 3,000 home care patients found 9 percent already had them on admission. Add that up and you’re looking at roughly 2 and a half million people a year in the US developing these, and die from complications. 95 percent are preventable just by turning, checking skin, and basic care. we need real oversight and preventable measures everywhere, from facilities to home caregivers getting paid to give care. We’re creating this Department of Veterans Humanitarian Aid, staffed by veterans, to go into hospitals, nursing homes, and home care settings where people are getting paid to care for bedridden and disabled individuals. Their job is simple. Check that turning, skin checks, feeding, and all care protocols are actually being done. Document everything they find.
