Block $200 Billion War Funding & End U.S. Involvement in Iran

To: Sen. Young, Rep. Messmer, Sen. Banks

From: A verified voter in Mount Vernon, IN

March 19

I am writing to demand immediate and decisive action to oppose the ongoing war in Iran and to categorically reject any forthcoming request—reported to be as high as $200 billion—from the Pentagon to fund its continuation. This proposal is extraordinary and unacceptable. The scale of the requested funding—approaching a quarter of the annual U.S. defense budget—signals preparation for a prolonged and deeply entangling conflict. Even early phases of this war have already cost tens of billions of dollars, and this request makes clear that the administration is planning for a long-term escalation, not a limited engagement. Let’s be clear: Congress has not authorized this war. Continuing to prosecute it—and now attempting to finance it at this scale—represents a direct erosion of Congress’s constitutional authority and responsibility. At the same time, this administration has pushed for cuts to essential domestic programs—housing, healthcare, education, and other social services that millions of Americans rely on. The contrast could not be more stark. There is seemingly unlimited funding for war, while working families are told to accept austerity at home. That is both fiscally irresponsible and morally indefensible. The American people are not asking for this war. There is widespread opposition to another open-ended military conflict in the Middle East, particularly one that risks further destabilization and escalation. The United States is not a passive observer—it is funding, supplying, and actively prosecuting a conflict that aligns with the strategic objectives of Israel. Opposition to this war is not rooted in antisemitism, nor should it be mischaracterized as such. It is a principled, pro-American position grounded in the belief that U.S. lives, resources, and credibility should not be expended in an unjustified and unpopular conflict. Congress must not ignore this reality. In light of these facts, I strongly urge you to take the following actions: • Publicly and unequivocally oppose any funding request related to the war in Iran, including the reported $200 billion proposal. • Vote against any appropriations bill that includes funding for this conflict. • Actively organize within your caucus to block such funding—this requires visible leadership, not quiet dissent. • Demand full transparency from the administration regarding the scope, cost, and legal justification for this war. • Reassert Congress’s constitutional authority by insisting that any continued military engagement requires explicit authorization. • Use your public platform to clearly explain to the American people why this funding must be blocked and to encourage civic pressure on elected officials to oppose it. This is a defining moment. Congress must decide whether it will fulfill its constitutional duty or allow another costly and unnecessary war to proceed unchecked. I expect you to stand firmly against this funding and to lead in bringing this war to an end.
