Bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia back for due process

To: Rep. Van Duyne, Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

April 23

I am writing again regarding the illegal imprisonment of Kilmar Abrego Garcia in El Salvador’s notorious CECOT prison. The White House has admitted Mr. Abrego Garcia’s being in CECOT was a mistake. The Supreme Court voted unanimously that Mr. Abrego Garcia should be returned to the United States. This Republican administration has refused to bring him home. The Constitution’s Fifth Amendment states, “No person shall be denied life, liberty, or property without due process of law.” Mr. Abrego Garcia was not afforded that due process before his liberty was denied. Arresting someone and not affording them due process is not an arrest. It is an abduction. Abducting someone and sending them to an overseas prison in exchange for money is slavery. If this Republican administration can ignore the Constitution and the Supreme Court with impunity, it can ignore any laws it cares to, and we will cease to be a nation of laws. Mr. Abrego Garcia must be brought back to receive due process. Charge him with being a gang member. If he is found guilty, he should be jailed. If he is found not guilty, he should be freed. You and your colleagues, as members of Congress, have the power, and the authority, to demand the administration obey the Supreme Court and adhere to the Constitution. Thus far, your silence has been deafening. My wife and I, again, earnestly urge you to do everything in your power to defend the Constitution, and the rule of law in our country, by bringing Mr. Abrego Garcia back to the United States and affording him his Constitutional right to due process.
