I would like to thank you for your life long service to this nation. You have set an example of kindness and compassion in your leadership. You have championed the working people in your policies and fought tirelessly for healthcare for all.
I feared every single day of Donald Trumps first presidency. I feared for the truth and science and best practices to be thrown out in favor of policies driven by hate and greed. After he was elected, I bought a plane ticket for myself and my adult daughter to attend the women march in Washington. It was one of the most uplifting experiences I’ve had.
You have accomplished much to uplift our country in the last four years. But now, I am afraid again. I am afraid of the unrepairable consequences of a second Trump presidency. I don’t have to tell you all the self serving and destructive policies that will be put in place. I do not trust the Republicans to stand for democracy or stand up to MAGA. Our people will suffer for decades.
It is with shame that I would ever have to say this to a man who has given with his whole being for the benefit of others, but respectively sir I am asking you to step aside and help to build a consensus and strong option for the democrats and others who oppose Trump in the upcoming presidential election.
I know you are dedicated and determined fight Trump. I honestly believe the best way to do that is to nominate a younger candidate who will continue your fight. I am fearful you won’t win and there will be nothing we can do to stop them.
