I am writing as a deeply disturbed and outraged constituent regarding the newly announced migrant detention facility in the Florida Everglades—dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz.” This grotesque project, aggressively promoted by President Trump, Governor DeSantis, and DHS Secretary Noem, flagrantly violates human dignity and basic human rights. This facility, constructed in just days on land sacred to Native tribes, holds up to 5,000 detainees in makeshift, barbed-wire encircled housing amid venomous snakes, snapping turtles, and alligators . Officials proudly tout “natural” wildlife as deterrence rather than establishing humane conditions . Inducing fear—that is all this “camp” is designed to do. Many of the detained are asylum-seeking families and individuals vulnerable under international and U.S. refugee law. This camp is a moral stain, a throwback to concentration camps and internment facilities—I will not mince words. Even House Homeland Security Democrats say it resembles “internment camps” . It dishonors America’s traditions and breaks every principle of due process, decency, and respect for life. I demand that you publicly oppose this facility and pressure federal authorities to: • Cease all operations at this site immediately • Halt the expansion or replication of similar camps elsewhere • Launch full congressional and judicial investigations into the legality and human impact of this project • Insist upon humane, legal, and transparent treatment of all migrants in line with U.S. and international law Silence or complacency is complicity. Our elected leaders must step up now to end this brutal spectacle of cruelty. Uphold your oath to justice and human rights—do not allow the U.S. to sink to this horrific level. I appreciate prompt action on this urgent matter to preserve our nation’s character and humanity.
