The private ownership of Little Saint James Island by Jeffrey Epstein enabled the exploitation and abuse of vulnerable minors, shielded from federal jurisdiction and accountability. This is an unacceptable situation that demands decisive action. The United States Virgin Islands should formally assert ownership over the island to ensure it does not remain a haven for predators like Epstein and the criminal activities committed by him and his associates. Furthermore, Congress should grant the U.S. Virgin Islands statehood, affording its residents full rights and representation, and placing the islands under the full purview of federal laws and oversight. The lack of accountability on Little Saint James Island led to grave injustices and human rights violations against vulnerable minors by Epstein and his circle, and bringing it under legitimate governmental control is a moral imperative to prevent such atrocities from occurring again. By taking these steps, we can uphold the principles of justice, protect children, and ensure the rule of law.
