Dear Senator, House Republicans’ hidden provision (H.R. 1 SEC. 70302) to shield government officials from contempt of court orders would cause chaos for our courts and country. No person or branch of government should be above the law. And in its un-American rush to hand Trump king-like powers, this provision would also upend decades of case law impacting personal freedoms, civil rights, election procedures, and more. As your constituent, I urge you to speak out against this provision and to VOTE NO on any bill that includes the House’s reckless and dangerous “No Contempt Clause.”
