Prioritize compassion, protect vulnerable citizens, reject cruel tax bill
To: Sen. Fischer, Sen. Ricketts
From: A constituent in Papillion, NE
May 22
By moving forward Trump’s “Big Beautiful Tax Bill”, House Republicans just told Americans:
We can’t afford nutrition assistance for hungry kids - Medicaid for people with disabilities - Pell grants for college students.
Provisions in the bill give Donald Trump the ability to ignore courts by removing the ability for courts to use contempt, it now prevents all transgender people (not just minors) from getting life-affirming treatment, it is taking away SNAP benefits, Medicare, Medicaid from millions of Americans
BUT we can afford a $235B estate tax break to the top two-tenths of 1%.
House Republicans would rather continue to keep people sick, in poverty, and without means to better themselves than ask a fractional number of the top 1% wealthiest to contribute to our nation’s wellbeing.
The hypocrisy is blinding and shameful.
If you vote for this bill, you are complicit harming Nebraskans, especially those in rural areas.
We crumble day by day while the wealthiest individuals get wealthier off our backs, with more and more breaks and loopholes delivered to them on a silver platter by the GOP.
Your constituents who are already suffering will suffer more if you vote for this - and they will remember your position on this.
