Stop the war crimes – the unlawful murdering of Venezuelan nationals!
To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz
From: A constituent in Huntington, TX
December 28
I am writing as a constituent to demand that you vote YES on the War Powers Resolution to immediately block further unauthorized U.S. military action against Venezuela.
The administration has escalated military operations in the Caribbean without congressional approval, without a lawful justification, and without transparency. U.S. forces have carried out strikes on small boats, expanded troop and naval deployments, and escalated toward open conflict — all in direct violation of Congress’s exclusive constitutional authority over war powers.
More than 80 people have been killed as a result of these actions. Let us be absolutely clear: those 80 people were murdered by our government in an unauthorized act of war. In at least one documented case, a second strike was carried out on a disabled vessel, killing shipwrecked civilians — an action that legal experts warn may constitute a war crime.
This is lawless violence. The Constitution does not grant the White House unilateral authority to wage war. That power belongs to Congress — and Congress has a duty to act when that authority is ignored. Failure to do so makes the Senate complicit in an illegal and escalating military campaign.
The American people do not want another endless, unauthorized war. We do not want civilian bloodshed carried out in our name, hidden behind vague claims and executive overreach. The War Powers Resolution exists precisely to stop this kind of abuse before it spirals further out of control.
I expect you to uphold your oath to the Constitution, assert Congress’s authority, and vote YES on the War Powers Resolution to stop these unlawful attacks and prevent further loss of life.
History will judge whether Congress chose to act — or chose to look away
