Protect U.S. Citizens — Uphold Your Duty Under U.S. & International Law
To: Rep. Shreve, Sen. Banks, Sen. Young
From: A constituent in Indianapolis, IN
October 1, 2025
I am demanding immediate action to ensure the safety of American citizens sailing aboard the humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza. These vessels carry vital humanitarian aid such as baby formula to civilians facing catastrophic deprivation. Among those on board are U.S. veterans, doctors, & humanitarian workers. Their mission is lawful, moral, & protected under international law.
Your obligations are clear:
• International Law & Maritime Protections: Under the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea, vessels in international waters are entitled to freedom of navigation & protection from unlawful interference. Any attack or seizure of U.S. citizens would violate international law.
• Humanitarian Law: International Humanitarian Law (including the Geneva Conventions) affirms the right of civilians to receive aid & prohibits the use of starvation & blockades as weapons of war. By participating, U.S. citizens uphold international law where governments have failed.
• U.S. Responsibility: The U.S. government has a constitutional duty & precedent of intervening to protect its citizens abroad. Americans detained, attacked, or threatened in international waters are entitled to full diplomatic & protective action. Those aboard this flotilla deserve the same protections.
Attempts to smear this mission as anything other than a delivery of aid to starving civilians are disingenuous. The entire world knows the reality: this flotilla is about breaking an illegal siege & delivering lifesaving supplies. To side against your citizens & in favor of a foreign government’s unlawful blockade is negligence — it is betrayal.
As an elected official, you are sworn to uphold the Constitution, defend Americans’ rights, & ensure their protection wherever they are. Failing to safeguard U.S. citizens on this mission means not fulfilling your oath. Worse, acting in the interests of a foreign government rather than your citizens is a betrayal.
I therefore demand that you:
1. Publicly affirm your commitment to the safety of U.S. citizens aboard the flotilla.
2. Press the State Department & U.S. government to guarantee their protection in international waters.
3. Denounce any attempt to harm, detain, or obstruct Americans on lawful humanitarian missions.
4. Make clear the U.S. will not provide cover for violations of international law against its citizens.
Failure to act decisively now would represent not only dereliction of duty but a profound betrayal of the American people. I & many others will not forget where our elected officials stood when American lives, rights, & moral obligations were at stake.
