I am writing to express my strong opposition to the planned live streaming of the upcoming execution of Nadal Hasan. I urge you to intervene immediately to stop this stream from taking place.
While people hold diverse views on capital punishment, transforming the taking of a human life into a public media event crosses a dangerous ethical boundary. Live streaming an execution dehumanizes the individual, inflicts gratuitous psychological harm on the public, and reduces a solemn legal action to sensationalized public violence.
Broadcasting lethal violence violates fundamental international standards against cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment. Allowing such content to be streamed—where it can be easily recorded, redistributed, and viewed by vulnerable individuals, including children—is deeply irresponsible and sets a harmful precedent.
Government institutions and media platforms have a duty to uphold public standards of human dignity and restraint. I call upon you to exercise your authority to ensure that this execution is not broadcast, televised, or streamed on any platform.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this urgent matter.
