I am writing as a Pennsylvania resident to express my support for Pennsylvania House Bill 1971, which would expand access to plug-in solar systems across the Commonwealth. This winter, my family’s electric bill from PECO Energy Company increased by roughly $200, and many households across our region are experiencing the same kind of spike in energy costs. Families are looking for practical ways to lower their bills and gain some control over their energy use. Plug-in solar technology offers a simple, affordable option. These small solar systems can be installed on balconies, patios, or yards and plugged into a standard outlet. They are portable, require no permanent construction, and can move with a resident when they relocate. That makes them especially valuable for renters, apartment residents, and homeowners who cannot install traditional rooftop solar systems. Pennsylvania House Bill 1971 would modernize Pennsylvania’s rules by removing unnecessary barriers that currently prevent residents from using certified plug-in solar devices. By allowing safe, small-scale solar systems without excessive regulatory requirements, the bill would empower more people to participate in clean energy and offset rising utility costs.
