I'm a constituent writing to express my concerns about the role and impact of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the United States.
ICE was created to enforce immigration laws, but over time its practices have increasingly harmed families, communities, and public trust. Aggressive enforcement tactics, workplace raids, the detention of long-term residents and shooting of innocent people create fear rather than safety, including among people who contribute to our economy, raise families, and otherwise live law-abiding lives.
These actions strain local communities and public resources while doing little to address the root causes of immigration challenges. Many local law enforcement agencies have noted that ICE involvement makes communities less safe by discouraging victims and witnesses from reporting crimes.
For these reasons, I support defunding ICE and redirecting those resources toward more effective and humane solutions. Funding should prioritize due process, community-based support, legal pathways to immigration, and agencies that focus on genuine public safety rather than mass detention and deportation.
America has always been strongest when it balances the rule of law with fairness, accountability, and human dignity. Defunding ICE is a necessary step toward building an immigration system that reflects those values and uses taxpayer dollars responsibly.
Be on the right side of history and leave a legacy to be proud of.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
