Your recent social media post applauding unilateral U.S. action against Venezuela is reckless, dishonest, and constitutionally indefensible.
Congress — not the President — has the sole authority to authorize war. Praising military action before Congress has been briefed or voted is not leadership; it is complicity in executive overreach. Dressing this up as “law enforcement” or blaming Venezuela for the opioid crisis in West Virginia does not change the facts. Our crisis was driven by U.S. pharmaceutical companies, regulatory failures, and domestic policy decisions — not by a foreign government.
West Virginians are tired of being used as rhetorical cover for illegal actions abroad while you gut healthcare, safety-net services, and oversight at home. Your willingness to cheer actions that bypass Congress and undermine the Constitution makes clear that power, not accountability, is your priority.
Be advised: constituents across West Virginia are organizing, documenting, and preparing to use every lawful tool available to demand accountability — including public pressure, oversight demands, and calls for impeachment where warranted. No elected official is above the Constitution.
If you believe this action was legal, then state clearly:
• what congressional authorization justified it
• what statute you are relying on
• why Congress was sidelined
Until then, your statement represents a failure of duty to both your office and your constituents.
West Virginia deserves representation that defends the Constitution — not excuses its erosion.
