Support a Veto Override to Protect Our Public Schools
To: Sen. Giessel, Rep. Holland
From: A verified voter in Anchorage, AK
April 17
I’m writing to strongly urge you to support a veto override of Governor Dunleavy’s decision to block the $1,000 increase to the Base Student Allocation (BSA). Our schools are already operating on the edge, and this funding is not a luxury — it is essential.
My daughter graduated last year and I still support allocating the permanent fund dividend to this effort.
The Governor’s veto dismisses the will of the Legislature and the voices of thousands of Alaskans who have called for meaningful, permanent investment in our public education system. His alternative proposal — a $560 increase with strings attached — is not enough, and it does not meet the moment.
Our students deserve fully funded classrooms, safe schools, and dedicated educators who aren’t leaving the profession or the state due to instability and underinvestment. This is about more than budgets. It’s about the future of Alaska’s children — and whether we have the courage to put them first.
Please vote to override.
