I am writing to urge you to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Trump for defying a Supreme Court decision that struck down his tariffs. This represents a direct violation of the constitutional separation of powers and undermines the rule of law that our democracy depends upon.
The Supreme Court issued a clear ruling against the administration's tariff policy, yet the President has continued to implement these tariffs in direct contradiction of the Court's decision. This creates dangerous uncertainty in US-China relations and demonstrates a willingness to ignore judicial authority when it conflicts with executive preferences. When a president refuses to comply with Supreme Court orders, it sets a precedent that threatens the entire constitutional framework.
This is not the first instance of concerning behavior from this administration. The pattern includes stocking the administration with individuals who backed false 2020 election claims, and a federal judge recently accused the administration of "terrorizing" immigrants in deportation efforts. These actions collectively suggest a disregard for legal constraints on executive power.
The Constitution provides impeachment as the remedy when a president violates their oath to faithfully execute the laws. Defying the Supreme Court is precisely the type of constitutional crisis that demands congressional action. If Congress fails to respond when a president ignores the judiciary, it effectively surrenders its role as a co-equal branch of government.
I urge you to support articles of impeachment based on the President's refusal to comply with the Supreme Court's tariff decision. The integrity of our constitutional system requires that no president be permitted to place themselves above judicial review. Your constituents deserve representatives who will defend the separation of powers regardless of political considerations.
