Vote against the save act

To: Rep. Escobar

From: A constituent in El Paso, TX

February 23, 2025

The SAVE Act would harm the voting rights of millions of Americans by requiring citizens to provide documentation proving their citizenship before being allowed to register or re-register to vote. This onerous requirement would disenfranchise around 12 million engaged voters who cast ballots in 2020 but lack ready access to documents like birth certificates or passports. Furthermore, it would undermine popular voter registration methods like online, mail-in, and registration drives used by tens of millions leading up to recent elections. Placing additional burdens on the voter registration process has been proven to depress turnout and violate the freedom to vote that is a bedrock of American democracy. For these reasons, the SAVE Act should be rejected as it would disproportionately harm the ability of eligible citizens to participate in federal elections. I urge you to vote against this antidemocratic legislation.
