Restore international aid

To: Pres. Trump

From: A constituent in Warwick, RI

April 19

The Trump administration's decision to cancel orders for life-saving peanut paste for millions of severely malnourished children across multiple countries is deeply concerning. Therapeutic food products like Plumpy'Nut have been proven highly effective in treating acute malnutrition and preventing countless child deaths. The U.S. has played a vital role in supplying these foods globally through USAID for over a decade. Cutting off this supply chain will have devastating consequences, potentially leading to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of children within just a few months according to experts. Even the peanut paste already produced may go to waste if shipping contracts are not awarded. American companies like Edesia and Mana Nutrition stand to suffer major economic impacts as well from this abrupt policy reversal. I urge you to take immediate action to restore USAID's full funding and logistical support for procuring and distributing emergency therapeutic foods to UNICEF, the World Food Programme and other frontline organizations working to address severe malnutrition globally. Children's lives quite literally depend on your leadership to uphold America's commitment to this lifesaving humanitarian aid program. The human costs of inaction are unacceptable.
