Strong Leadership Requires Speaking Out Against Dangerous Rhetoric

To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

April 5

I am writing to you as a concerned constituent who is deeply troubled by the tone and substance of Donald Trump’s recent Easter post on Truth Social. At a time that is meant to reflect unity, humility, and moral reflection, the rhetoric used was instead divisive, aggressive, and frankly unhinged. This is not about political disagreement it is about basic standards of leadership and decency. When a former president and current political figure uses language that fuels anger, insults others, and undermines the dignity of public discourse, it demands a response from those currently in office. Silence in moments like this is not neutrality it reads as acceptance. I want to know why are you not speaking out Where is the line where conduct becomes unacceptable, regardless of party Leaders are supposed to set an example, especially during significant cultural and religious moments like Easter. When that standard is abandoned, it is your responsibility as an elected official entrusted with representing your constituents to call it out clearly and unequivocally. Your constituents deserve to know that you value integrity, stability, and respect in leadership over political convenience. Failing to address behavior like this only contributes to the ongoing erosion of trust in our institutions. I urge you to publicly respond and make it clear where you stand. This is a moment that calls for courage, not silence.
