An Open Letter

To: Sen. Kim, Rep. Norcross, Sen. Booker

From: A constituent in Runnemede, NJ

January 8

I am writing as your constituent to urge you to oppose funding for additional detention beds in the FY2026 DHS Appropriations Bill. The Trump administration’s detention policies have already torn families apart, locked people up without due process, and subjected them to horrific conditions. Now we have ICE agents murdering innocent civilians on the street. They must be DEFUNDED, not given more money. The 2025 Reconciliation Bill handed ICE $45 billion to fund the detention of hundreds of thousands of people over the next four years, which has made detention deadlier and conditions more horrific. Adding more funding and more beds would only escalate the crisis. Thank you for your attention to this urgent issue.
