Defending the Integrity of Our Cultural Institutions: A Call to Protect the Kennedy Center from Political Interference I write to you today with great concern about the recent developments surrounding the Kennedy Center, a cornerstone of our nation's cultural heritage. Under the leadership of President Donald Trump, we are witnessing a disturbing erosion of artistic freedom and inclusivity. Specifically, the recent disinvitation of the San Francisco International Pride Orchestra from performing at the Kennedy Center during International Pride Day is a grievous blow not only to the LGBTQ community but to the very values of diversity and artistic expression that this institution was designed to uphold. The Kennedy Center, established as a symbol of our nation's commitment to the arts, should be a sanctuary for all voices, all cultures, and all communities. It is meant to reflect the diversity and vibrancy of our country, embracing artistic expressions from every corner of our society. The decision to disinvite a renowned LGBTQ orchestra-particularly on such a significant day as International Pride Day-represents a dangerous step backward in the fight for equality and inclusion. This act of political interference serves only to undermine the arts and to silence marginalized voices in our cultural landscape. What is at stake here is not just the reputation of the Kennedy Center, but the fundamental values that make America a beacon of freedom. When political figures use their influence to suppress the voices of marginalized groups, it sends a chilling message that our cultural institutions are no longer safe spaces for creative expression and diversity. The LGBTQ community deserves a seat at the table— on the stage, in the audience, and in the heart of our nation's arts institutions. I urge you to take immediate action to protect the integrity of the Kennedy Center and other cultural institutions across the country. As leaders of this nation, you must stand firm in the protection of free expression and the celebration of diversity. I ask that you take immediate steps to: Investigate the circumstances surrounding the disinvitation of the San Francisco International Pride Orchestra. Ensure that the Kennedy Center remains an inclusive and politically independent space that champions the diversity and creativity of all Americans. Work to protect the rights of LGBTQ artists, performers, and audiences, ensuring they have equal access to our nation's most prestigious cultural institutions. Our country's cultural legacy is at risk. Together, we must stand up for the freedom of expression and the celebration of the LGBTQ community. I call upon you to use your power to restore the Kennedy Center to its rightful place as a symbol of inclusivity, creativity, and artistic freedom.
