End State and Local Law Enforcement Partnerships with ICE

To: Assembly Member Bronson, Gov. Hochul, Sen. Brouk

From: A verified voter in Rochester, NY

October 12

End the partnerships between state employees, local police, and ICE. ICE is not a law enforcement agency serving this community — it is a federal deportation force operating at the direction of the executive branch, and our local officers should not be its ground crew. When police coordinate with ICE, they destroy the trust that makes community policing possible. Immigrant residents stop reporting crimes. Witnesses go silent. Everyone is less safe. What happened in Portland — military-style vehicles, automatic weapons, drones, residents trapped in their homes for hours over a single person — is what this collaboration looks like in practice. That is not public safety. That is occupation. State law should prohibit local and state employees from sharing resources, data, or personnel with ICE operations. Pass it.
