I write to you not only as a concerned Alaskan, but as someone who sees our national standing and security unraveling under the dangerous and embarrassingly weak leadership of Donald Trump. From the outside, he postures as a strongman. But what we’re seeing—on the world stage, in the economy, and throughout our federal institutions—is anything but strength. Just this week, Trump pleaded with Putin to “STOP!” on social media, while Russian strikes devastated Kyiv. This came after he publicly berated President Zelensky for rejecting a one-sided “peace deal” that would have handed parts of Ukraine over to Russia. This is not leadership. It’s capitulation. And make no mistake: Putin and Xi Jinping are walking all over him. America is being humiliated abroad, and it’s making the world more dangerous. Trump’s reckless tariff policies have already sent the markets into a tailspin. Major indexes have dropped double digits, the dollar is at a multi-year low, and investors are fleeing. His claims of progress with China are openly contradicted by Beijing. Our global credibility is collapsing—and Alaska is not immune. Tourism is predicted to be way down. International students no longer want to come to our universities. Even Canadians are avoiding us. My daughter just returned from Italy and said no one she met had any interest in visiting the U.S. as long as Trump is in charge. Our state, which relies on global goodwill, is suffering. Trump is an international embarrassment. This isn’t about political gain. It’s about preserving the credibility, safety, and strength of the United States—and Alaska’s place in the world. Speak out.
