Preserve U.S. global diplomatic presence and influence

To: Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Self, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Princeton, TX

April 15

The United States' diplomatic presence abroad is vital for maintaining strong ties with allies, advancing American interests, and ensuring global stability. Closing nearly 30 embassies and consulates, as proposed by the Trump administration, would severely undermine our nation's ability to exert influence on the global stage. These diplomatic outposts play a crucial role in facilitating diplomacy, providing assistance to American citizens, and gathering intelligence. Weakening our diplomatic footprint risks ceding ground to adversaries like China and Russia who are actively expanding their global reach. I implore you to reconsider this ill-advised plan to scale back America's global leadership role. Our embassies and consulates are essential for promoting democracy, human rights, and economic opportunities that benefit both the United States and the world. Maintaining a robust diplomatic corps is a wise investment in our national security and prosperity. Any short-term cost savings would be dwarfed by the long-term consequences of diminished American influence and strained international relations. The United States must uphold its commitment to global engagement and retain its indispensable diplomatic presence worldwide.
