December 18

As your constituent, I urge you to strongly support new rules from the Federal Trade Commission and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to rein in hidden, outrageous fees that can cost me hundreds of dollars and countless hours each year. Please do all you can to ensure the following rules are put in place and supported with the necessary funds and staff to get the job done: - The FTC Junk Fee Rule will end the bait-and-switch tactics by event ticket sellers, hotels and short-term rentals who advertise one price but pad the final price at checkout with hidden junk ‘resort,’ ‘convenience’ and ‘service’ fees. By having the full price upfront, consumers can easily comparison shop, and companies will have to compete on price. - Rules by the CFPB to limit overdraft fees on checking accounts and late fees on credit cards. By limiting overdraft fees to $5 or the amount that ‘covers no more than costs or losses,’ and credit card late fees to $8, families that pay these fees will save up to $425 a year – real money that goes back in our wallets to pay for necessities, not to pad corporations bottom lines. Congress can further protect consumers by passing the TICKET Act and Hotel Fee transparency bills before they adjourn in December, to ensure the new junk fee protections will be fully implemented. Thank you for listening to your constituents, and standing up for pro-consumer rules that save us from outrageous, unnecessary fees.
