Pass guaranteed paid sick leave for American workers. Mitch McConnell has been hospitalized for weeks, receiving what his office calls "excellent care," with his Senate salary continuing uninterrupted. That's a benefit most of the people he represents will never see. The U.S. remains the only wealthy country in the world that doesn't guarantee workers a single day of paid sick leave — and McConnell helped make sure it stayed that way.
In late 2020, McConnell blocked a Democratic effort to extend paid family and sick leave during a pandemic. In 2022, he voted against giving railway workers just seven days of sick leave. Congress built itself a safety net and then spent decades pulling up the ladder. Workers who get sick face a brutal choice: lose income or lose their job. That's not a personal failing — it's a policy failure, and it's fixable.
Support legislation that guarantees paid sick leave for all workers. What's good enough for a senator recovering in the hospital is good enough for a nurse, a warehouse worker, or a teacher.
