Support a Speaker who will hold gov't criminals accountable

To: Rep. Tonko

From: A constituent in Latham, NY

November 6

I am writing to ask you to NOT support Hakeem Jeffries as the next Speaker of the House. As many voters made clear on election day, top priorities include universal health coverage, holding corrupt individuals accountable for their crimes, and stopping the usage of American taxpayer dollars to support the Israeli government. Rep. Jeffries stated in August of this year that he no longer supports the Medicare for All Act, and universal healthcare is a major issue on which many re-elected and newly elected Democrats campaigned. There is massive public support to overhaul our healthcare system and move away from greedy insurance companies that care more about profits than the health and safety of Americans, and I believe that any effort to achieve this will be counterproductive with Rep. Jeffries as Speaker. Furthermore, Rep. Jeffries has a history of supporting pro-Israel lobbyists and votes to continue aid to Israel all on the American taxpayer's dime. Lastly and perhaps most importantly, Rep. Jeffries recently said that "The American people don’t want us to get even, they want us to get things done on their behalf." Both things can be true at the same time, and many Americans absolutely want the Democratic Congress to re-establish the rule of LAW by holding members of the Trump administration and his family accountable for their CRIMINAL activities over the last 10 years. As a constituent, I urge you to please consider supporting someone else for the Speaker role, someone who supports the will of the American people and will address affordability AND government corruption.
