Hold the pentagon accountable: allow the press entrance

To: Rep. Baumgartner, Sen. Cantwell, Sen. Murray

From: A constituent in Waitsburg, WA

October 16, 2025

Today The Atlantic published a piece called: Why Is The Pentagon Afraid of the Press? Why indeed? I was taught that transparency is one of the signs of a democracy. Trump himself campaigned that he would get rid of the “deep State” and that everything would be transparent. From my point of view- Trump has inaugurated the deep state and done everything possible to obsfucate his actions and those of the administration. From my point of view, Hegseth is upset because he has been caught doing things he ought not to do: making plans on Signal, revealing top secret military information, bombing Venezuelan fishing boats and Colombian boats and lying about their provenance and purpose. Any of these things should have cost him, if not him and many others their jobs. I don’t understand why it hasn’t. I don’t understand why the bastions of transparency and free press are being thrown out of our government. In an administration that claims that “merit” is the most important aspect and there is no place for equity- to me it seems that there is a whole lot of Nepitism, quid-pro-quo, Yes men, and little to know qualification and merit. I don’t understand why Congress is refusing to be a check and balance to the administration. Why aren’t you holding the administration accountable? Shame on The Senate for approving such charlatans. Shame on the House for pushing through legislation Trump ants and your constituents do not. Shame.
