An Open Letter

To: Sen. Baldwin, Rep. Pocan, Sen. Johnson

From: A constituent in Madison, WI

The Trump administration’s ICE operations have devolved into a pattern of violence, lawlessness, and constitutional violations that demand immediate congressional action. ICE agent murdered U.S. citizen Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, with leadership dismissing the killing as “self-defense” despite clear video evidence to the contrary. This represents not just a tragedy but a dangerous precedent where federal agents operate with impunity against American citizens. Hundreds of U.S. citizens have been wrongfully detained and mistreated by federal agents, often through racial profiling. Thousands of immigrants arrested in Chicago’s “Operation Midway Blitz” and Miami’s “Alligator Alcatraz” have simply vanished from custody—a mass disappearance that should alarm anyone concerned with government accountability. ICE facilities have documented 510 identifiable human rights violations including sexual assault, medical negligence, and CIA-style torture tactics. The administration has revived family separation policies, with hundreds of children torn from parents during aggressive raids. ICE now deploys privacy-violating surveillance tools and facial recognition spyware to hack phones and track individuals, while federal agencies use license plate tracking data to surveil protesters and immigrants. These tactics mirror authoritarian regimes, not constitutional democracy. The fiscal irresponsibility matches the moral failure. Funding these unconstitutional operations wastes taxpayer dollars on legal settlements for wrongful detention, facility abuse claims, and operations that tear apart communities and families who contribute to our economy. I urge you to take three immediate actions: First, demand a full investigation of ICE agents’ indiscriminate use of deadly force against protesters and citizens. Second, refuse to pass any DHS appropriations bill that fully funds ICE’s current operations. Third, support the impeachment of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem for overseeing these human rights abuses. These aren’t partisan issues—they’re about fundamental American values of due process, human dignity, and government accountability. Congress must not stand idle while a federal agency operates as an unaccountable force targeting citizens and immigrants alike. I expect you to act decisively to restore constitutional order and fiscal responsibility. What actions will you take?
