I’m writing because your silence in this moment is dangerous. You’ve seen the reporting: Democratic lawmakers released a simple video urging our military to follow the Constitution. In response, Donald Trump publicly suggested those Democrats should be killed.
That is a call for violence against elected officials for doing nothing more than defending their constitutional duty.
So I am asking you directly:
Do you agree with Donald Trump that Democrats should be killed for telling the military to uphold the Constitution?
Yes or no — and answer publicly.
No private assurances. No vague statements. No hiding behind press staff. Iowans deserve a clear, on-the-record response from each of you.
If you do not support political executions, then say so plainly and publicly. Make it clear that advocating the deaths of American officials is unacceptable and incompatible with democratic leadership.
And if this isn’t enough to make you speak up, then what is? If a presidential candidate calling for the death of political opponents still doesn’t cross your line, Iowans need to know where that line actually is.
Your oath was to the Constitution — not to Donald Trump.
Your duty is to protect this country — not to remain silent when violence is encouraged against fellow Americans.
So let me be absolutely clear in my demand:
Honor your oath. Defend the Constitution. Reject political violence. And do it publicly.
I look forward to your public statement.
