The Supreme Court's 6-3 ruling in Louisiana v. Callais has effectively gutted Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, and I need you to act. Support the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, push to reintroduce the Freedom to Vote Act, back a federal ban on partisan gerrymandering, and support Supreme Court reforms including term limits, court expansion, and limits on shadow docket rulings.
Justice Kagan said it plainly in her dissent: "Under the Court's new view of Section 2, a State can, without legal consequence, systematically dilute minority citizens' voting power." That is already happening. Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and South Carolina are moving to exploit this ruling. Louisiana's governor suspended an ongoing primary election mid-vote. The Virginia Supreme Court struck down a voter-approved congressional map. This is not a hypothetical threat — it is an organized rollback of democratic representation happening right now.
No court ruling strips minority voters of constitutional rights they have always held. Speak out against this decision and use every legislative tool available to restore and expand voting protections. Silence is a choice, and your constituents are watching.
