Vote No on the Reconciliation Package

To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz

From: A verified voter in Dallas, TX

May 24

Vote no on the current budget reconciliation package. This bill spends $72 billion on new immigration enforcement — $38.2 billion for ICE alone, plus $22–26 billion for CBP — while cutting $700 billion from Medicaid and $90 billion from food assistance. That is not a budget. That is a choice to fund detention over healthcare, and deportation over dinner tables. A federal budget is a moral document. This one fails the test. The $1.2 trillion in new defense spending over the next decade, paired with $4–5 trillion in reduced federal revenues, will hollow out the programs that keep working families alive. The $294 billion in student loan changes will close doors for the next generation. Every one of these cuts lands hardest on people who have no lobbyist in the room. Vote no. Reject a framework that expands enforcement infrastructure while dismantling the safety net. The people I worship with, work alongside, and live near cannot absorb these losses — and they are watching how you vote.
