It is premature to lift the ban on supersonic flights over the United States. While companies like Boom Supersonic claim their aircraft produce minimal sonic booms, this technology has not been proven at full scale. Previous attempts to normalize sonic booms over populated areas, like the 1964 Oklahoma City tests, faced immense public backlash due to the disruptive noise. Lifting restrictions before adequately addressing these concerns would be unwise. We should allow time for thorough evaluation to ensure supersonic flights do not unnecessarily disturb communities or compromise environmental protections. Until definitive evidence shows they can operate safely without excessive noise pollution, maintaining the current ban is prudent to protect public welfare. I urge you to carefully consider these factors and the potential consequences before hastily deregulating this industry.
