ICE “officers” are not highly-trained agents

To: Rep. Van Duyne, Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

February 24

Recent congressional testimony from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement attorney and whistleblower revealed ICE cut almost half its training programs, specifically sections about the Constitution, the US legal system, use of force, proper arrest and detention, and weapons training. He also testified the agency is "lying to Congress and the American people" about its training of new recruits. This is why US citizens are being murdered and agents are dropping their guns. This is why thousands of non-violent people are being kidnapped, brutalized, molested, dehumanized, and killed. This is why children are being abandoned or detained for months. ICE “officers” are not highly-trained agents. They are poorly-trained, poorly supervised thugs with guns who are feeding off the power, the anonymity, and the immunity they have been given. They are a deadly paramilitary force unleashed on this Republican administration's perceived enemies. That system is not sustainable. ICE’s culture of lawlessness cannot be fixed with small changes. The agency must be torn down, rebuilt into something similar to the previous Immigration and Naturalization Service, and return to acting within 100 miles of the US border. My wife and I implore you to demand a change to this deadly situation before more American citizens are killed by untrained “officers.”
