Matt Gaetz is unfit to be Attorney General
To: Sen. Braun, Sen. Young
From: A verified voter in Martinsville, IN
November 14
The nomination of Representative Matt Gaetz as Attorney General is deeply concerning given the serious allegations of misconduct that were under investigation by the House Ethics Committee prior to his resignation. While the Justice Department closed its own probe into sex trafficking claims without charges, the Ethics Committee's review encompassed broader potential violations including sexual misconduct, illicit drug use, improper gifts, and obstruction of investigations. Even if the President wishes to reward a loyal ally, the nation's top law enforcement official must be someone of unimpeachable integrity beyond reproach. Mr. Gaetz's past conduct and ethics issues raise doubts about his ability to lead the Department of Justice impartially and uphold the rule of law. I strongly urge rejecting this nomination and selecting an individual whose record demonstrates a firm commitment to justice, ethics, and the equal application of the law. The Attorney General must have the trust of the American people, which Mr. Gaetz has severely undermined through his actions and associations. Please consider a nominee better suited to restoring public faith in this vital institution.
