I’m sick & tired of these bills constantly threatening the sovereignty & privacy of WE THE PEOPLE-ARGHHHH!!! The Combating Organized Retail Crime Act uses the pretense of preventing organized retail theft to drastically expand the Trump administration's ability to surveil anyone visiting a retail center or public space. This bill has far-reaching privacy consequences for all Americans and could also disproportionately impact Black, brown, and immigrant communities. As your constituent, I'm calling on you to reject CORCA and protect our privacy. CORCA will not meaningfully reduce retail theft, which is often driven by economic need rather than organized crime. Instead, CORCA would make it even easier for DHS to spy on us by allowing them to turn their vast arsenal of surveillance technology – from facial recognition technology to automatic license plate readers like Flock – on consumers around the country, all under the guise of stopping shoplifters. Mass surveillance does not keep us safe. Vote no on CORCA, and any other federal criminalization legislation that would expand surveillance, increase incarceration rates, and harm our civil rights and liberties.
