Demand for Impeachment Proceedings — DHS Secretary Kristi Noem

To: Sen. Grassley, Rep. Nunn, Sen. Ernst

From: A constituent in Des Moines, IA

January 9

I am writing to you as your constituent to formally urge you to support impeachment proceedings against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Her leadership of DHS has been marked by reckless escalation, lack of accountability, and federal actions that have directly endangered — and now taken — civilian lives. On January 7, 2026, Renée Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three and a United States citizen, was fatally shot by an ICE agent during a federal enforcement action in Minneapolis. Video footage of the incident has raised serious and unresolved questions about the necessity, proportionality, and legality of the use of lethal force. This was not an overseas conflict or a battlefield. This was a federal law-enforcement action carried out in a U.S. city, against a civilian, with fatal consequences. Equally alarming is the federal response that followed. The investigation into Ms. Good’s killing was immediately taken over by federal authorities, with local and state officials excluded. This decision undermines public confidence, prevents independent review, and reinforces the perception that DHS is shielding itself from accountability rather than seeking the truth. Secretary Noem has publicly defended the actions of ICE and DHS in this case, adopting a posture of justification rather than transparency. This response reflects a broader pattern under her leadership: aggressive enforcement rhetoric, normalization of excessive force, and dismissal of legitimate concerns raised by communities, civil-rights advocates, and elected officials. The Constitution grants Congress the authority — and the responsibility — to check executive abuse. When federal agencies operate with lethal power absent meaningful oversight, impeachment is not political retaliation; it is a constitutional safeguard. The killing of Renée Nicole Good was not an isolated tragedy. It is the predictable result of leadership that treats civilian harm as collateral damage and accountability as optional. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem has demonstrated conduct incompatible with the responsibilities of her office. I am asking you, as my representative in Congress, to publicly support and advance articles of impeachment against Secretary Noem, and to demand full, independent accountability for the actions of DHS and ICE under her command. History will remember whether Congress acted when federal power crossed a line. I expect my elected officials to defend the rule of law, civilian life, and constitutional limits on executive authority.
