Protect our democracy

To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Carter, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Leander, TX

September 9, 2025

I am writing to urge you to fully support and protect the work of the new January 6th Committee. The events of January 6, 2021, were nothing less than a violent insurrection against the United States government. Those who stormed and desecrated the U.S. Capitol attempted to overturn a lawful election, disrupt the peaceful transfer of power, and subvert the will of the American people. These rioters threatened the lives of elected officials, including chanting for the hanging of Vice President Mike Pence. They brutally attacked police officers who courageously defended the Capitol. They vandalized and defiled the very seat of our democracy. Their intent was clear: to overthrow a democratically elected Congress and undermine our Constitution. Such actions cannot be dismissed or downplayed. Insurrection is treason. If those who participated in or incited these crimes are not fully investigated and prosecuted, then the very foundation of our democracy is at risk. Accountability is not optional—it is a requirement for justice and for the survival of our Republic. I demand that you give the January 6th Committee your full support, without interference or partisan obstruction. The truth must be uncovered, and the American people must see justice served. Only by holding every individual accountable—whether they carried out violence, encouraged it, or enabled it—can we ensure this never happens again. Congress took an oath to uphold the Constitution. Now is the time to honor that oath by standing firmly for democracy, justice, and the rule of law.
