Crucial flooding research essential for public safety and resilience

To: Rep. Spartz, Sen. Young, Sen. Banks

From: A constituent in Muncie, IN

July 17

NOAA's Atlas 15 project would provide vital data on future flood risks, allowing infrastructure to be engineered for the realities of a warming world rather than an environment that no longer exists. Stalling this project means homes, bridges, roads and other critical infrastructure will continue to be under-designed to withstand intensifying deluges. The mounting costs of flood damage and tragic loss of life underscore the urgent need for this forward-looking research from NOAA. Prioritizing access to the best available science on shifting precipitation patterns is crucial for safeguarding communities and making well-informed investments that increase resilience. Cancelling Atlas 15 is a dangerous decision that leaves the public vulnerable.
