Don’t Cut Nursing Home access by slashing Medicaid

To: Sen. Thune, Rep. Johnson, Sen. Rounds

From: A constituent in Vermillion, SD

April 6

Proposed cuts to Medicaid could severely impact the ability of elderly South Dakotans to access essential long-term care services like nursing homes and home health aides. As our population ages, an increasing number of older adults require this type of support to meet their daily needs. Medicaid is a critical lifeline, covering nursing home costs for over 60% of residents. Slashing Medicaid funding risks leaving many vulnerable seniors without access to the care they require to live with dignity. We must prioritize protecting and strengthening this vital program to ensure our older citizens can age with the support and resources they deserve.
